It's going to be a date, it ain't a date ye-

[Okay. Okay. Maybe it is a date. The warmth that swells through him as he holds the sides of Shouto's face, his gaze a bit disappointed yet stunned when Shouto pulls away says that it is a date.]

It's a surprise. Just make sure you bring some kind of jacket. Then again, you might not need one- just bring one anyway!!!

[He sees the distracted way Shouto looks at him and it definitely distracts him from what he was saying.]

[The word is a big one, feels like it needs a capital letter in the front: Date, instead of just date. Because it's the first, maybe, because it's something new for both of them, but maybe it'll always feel like a capital-letter-Date.

A Date. He needs a jacket. He needs to change. The first rushing butterflies of excitement burst into being in his stomach, fluttering through his veins as Katsuki talks about a surprise. Has he ever looked forward to anything this much?]

A jacket, okay. Hang on, let me change. I'll be right back.

[Thankfully he always showers after his morning workout, so all he has to do is figure out something to wear. Honestly, it takes him almost twice as long to figure that out as it usually does, meaning it's almost ten whole minutes before he reemerges in black jeans, a grey t-shirt, and a blue zip hoodie. A bit dark, maybe, but it doesn't look half bad.]

Is this okay?

[It's a date with Shouto, so of course it needs to be capitalized. It's major and terrifying and yet he doesn't want to stop.]

Yeah yeah.

[Katsuki finds himself curling up in Shouto's abandoned seat, soaking up the body heat left behind. He can see why it's easy for him to doze off, but he's too agitated to even consider trying. His head snaps up when he hears Shouto's voice, his eyes lingering on his outfit and the way his jeans hug his legs.]

You...

I don't think you're physically capable of looking bad, come on.

[Those butterflies are from both excitement as well as nerves, and the nerves pull ahead slightly as he stands for inspection, feeling Katsuki's eyes on him as an almost physical sensation. Hopefully he passes muster. He thinks he might, given the way those eyes linger, but the response is still unexpected.]

I definitely can. You're just biased.

[And yet there's a laugh in his voice and a light in his eyes as he approaches Katsuki, standing in front of him and offering both hands. It's tempting to just climb into the couch on top of him, that vee of his shirt still drawing the eye, but...Date. Date is important.]

Let's go?

Shut up. I told you before that my taste is impeccable.

[If Shouto ever chose to not go the hero route (for some unbelievable reason) at least he could always fall back on modeling. Holy fucking shit. Something in Katsuki's expression softens, warmed by that laughter and vibrant light, and he finds himself taking both hands in his while his cheeks are dusted pink.]

...Huh? Oh. Yeah. Date.

[He does pull at him first, trying to get him down there so he can kiss him one more time before they depart Shouto's apartment.]

[It's not like it's gonna take much to get Shouto down there for a kiss. After all, it's something he really enjoys doing now, especially when Katsuki's expression goes soft and faintly pink like that. It's a nice look. They're all nice looks, but he especially likes that only he gets looks like that one. It's something that's just theirs.

He takes his time with that kiss, and by the time they break apart and he pulls Katsuki to his feet, Shouto is blushing faintly too, a small, almost silly smile playing across his lips. He's still holding one of Katsuki's hands as they leave the apartment, and he doesn't show any sign of wanting to let go.]

So where are we headed?

[It is just theirs, which makes it something worth guarding, fighting to protect. Katsuki can't imagine looking at anyone else that way, which isn't weird in itself, as his standards are high, but it's just so unbelievable they even managed to get there.

He's still dazed and too warm as Shouto pulls him to his feet, and for a brief moment he wonders if Shouto has some kind of hidden gravity quirk, because he feels weightless, especially when he sees that smile.

Dork.]

Do you not know what the word surprise means? Come on. You'll find out soon anyway.

[Shouto's still holding his hand, and a warmth surges through him as they leave the complex and head out.]

[It's a mutual thing. And anyway, if there's a gravity quirk involved it's gotta be something mutual, because how else can you explain the way he feels drawn to Katsuki, as if he's got his own pull? It's not just the warmth of moonlacing, and it's never been that, even if maybe that had helped them get past their first awkward moments and hesitations.]

Guess I'm bad at surprises.

[The words are almost lighthearted, though, and his fingers squeeze briefly around Katsuki's as he follows his lead. Wherever they go is fine, and it doesn't matter, because this is A Date and that thought alone is enough to keep that strange, bubbly feeling alive in his chest, no matter how long it takes them to get there.]

[The moonlacing was an excuse, something to fall back on, but it's been months since he even thought to chalk it up to moonlacing. Whatever this is...it's between him and Shouto, and maybe the circumstances in this world helped, but it's still theirs.]

Then get better at 'em.

[He scoffs softly, squeezing his hand back and sticking close to him when they enter the more crowded sidewalks.]

It's down- down that way. [He nods at another street, flanked by the same trees that most of this place has, dragging Shouto with him.]

You'll have to keep surprising me, so I can practice.

[Is this flirting? It's weirdly easy, and he's got a small smile on his lips as he follows Katsuki down that side street, fingers locked and shoulders occasionally brushing as they move closer together.

All he sees ahead is a bunch of residences, small shops, and then a larger building, one that almost seems to sparkle in the light. He's never been over here before, so he's not sure what it is, eyeing the building with curiosity.]

That's where we're going?

[It's not dismissive, just curious!]

Fine. You're on.

[He smirks, but it's a relaxed, comfortable smirk. If this is flirting, maybe it's not so stupid. At least their version of it isn't.

He scoffs softly and pulls Shouto forward to keep going.]

Don't sound so excited.

I am excited. Don't I sound excited?

[Okay, now he's actually teasing Katsuki, though it is true. He's just got that kind of voice, and the other boy knows it. But he does wonder what the building is, as they come up to the doors to go in.]

You sound like one of those shitty actors they get for commercials.

[He rolls his eyes, but he's teasing Shouto too. Maybe he should be more annoyed, but mostly he's too busy trying to ignore the butterflies in his stomach. He's confident that Shouto will like this, but there's that remaining one percent that he might not like it. He playfully shoves Shouto in first, but then he realizes his mistake.]

Shit- Get back behind me! [There's a counter there and the prismal looks at them and smiles.

Would you like to rent some skates?]

Uh. Yeah.

[Okay, what sizes?

Katsuki gives his shoe size and keeps glancing to the side.]

[He's learned how to translate Katsuki well enough by now, which means that he's laughing as Katsuki shoves him through the door, a laugh which abruptly trails off as he finally realizes just what this place is. It's a skating rink. Katsuki is taking him skating, and just the thought of it makes him feel warm enough he doesn't even need the jacket he's carrying.]

We're going skating?

[Shouto turns to look at Katsuki, for the moment missing the prismal's question entirely. It's clear enough from his expression, a shy smile and dawning excitement sparkling in his eyes, that Katsuki's made a good choice, not to mention just how happy he sounds. You did good, kiddo.]

Is that-

[Katsuki glances up, and he forgets what he was going to say. His world stops. Who cares about the rest of the world when he's got the most beautiful sight right in front of him? Even though it's cold, Katsuki's face flushes, a warmth blossoming in his chest. Shouto's happy and that...it makes him happy. He reaches for his hand, squeezing it.]

You know how, don't you?

Yeah, I learned back in December. It's a lot of fun. Different from when I'm making the ice myself.

[He squeezes Katsuki's hand back, after a moment lacing their fingers together as he finally turns to the Prismal behind the counter, giving his shoe size and taking the skates before turning back to Katsuki.]

I didn't even know this place was here, how did you find it?

... [That surprises him. He just thought Shouto always knew how.] How's it different?

[The small gesture sends butterflies up his chest, and he takes his own pair of skates, reluctant to break contact just yet.]

I threatened to kill a man. [He answers dryly. The Prismal suddenly looks alarmed.]

Shut up.

[But he's almost laughing as he says it, bumping his shoulder against Katsuki's. At this point, he knows how the death threats translate, just what he means, and even that dry response is enough to ignite that soft, warm glow in him again as he leads them towards a bench to change out of their shoes and into skates, not letting go of his hand until he has to to get his shoes off.]

It's just...different. When I'm using my quirk, the ice is part of me. I'm making it. Skating, the ice isn't mine, and it's not just my feet on the ice, it's the skates. That probably doesn't make any sense, does it?

[He's never tried to explain it before.]

Fucking make me.

[He retorts, challenging him, some of his fire calmed and softened by the affectionate way Shouto bumps his shoulder. He stares at him quietly, forgetting to insist that he lead until they're sitting and he's looking at his skates. He hates having to withdraw his hand, but... they're probably going to have to do a lot of hand-holding soon. He sucks at skating.]

Not really. [He smirks.] Is it similar to how I'm resistant to my own explosions, but I'll still burn my hand if I play with fire too much? Except you're just fucking clumsy on other ice?

[This...is flirting. And it feels weirdly comfortable, in a way he never expected it would. Especially with his present company. But he likes the banter, a lot.

He listens to Katsuki talk as he laces up his skates, tilting his head from side to side in a so-so gesture, lips slightly pursed as he thinks.]

Not exactly. More like--okay. When you use your quirk to fly, you're the one doing everything, right? So you don't really have to think about it. You automatically adjust your angle, how you hold your hands, the way you move your shoulders to turn. You're the explosion and the body. My quirk is the same. It's part of me. But ice-skating, it's like...if you were wearing a pair of Hatsume's rocket boots. You know they work, and how to work them, but they're not part of you. Is that better?

I'd like to see you try.

[It's their own brand of flirting. Aggressive and taunting as much as it's affectionate. He likes it, and he likes the weird fluttery warm yet exhilarating feeling he gets in his chest when they do it.]

[Katsuki listens, but he ends up snorting.] Tch...my quirk's way better than her shitty rocket boots. But yeah, I get it. It's different when it's something you've learned and been part of you your whole life.

Exactly. It's different. But it's kind of more fun, doing it this way. I like it. I didn't know you knew how to skate, either.

[His skates laced, Shouto stands, leaving his jacket and shoes on the bench they've claimed as their own, and offers Katsuki his hand.]

Come on, let's go.

That's because I-

[Nevermind. He'll either learn soon enough or Katsuki will have miraculously absorbed the knowledge and skills of how to skate after one attempt. His skates laced up, he reaches and takes Shouto's hand, a little too firmly, and stands up.]

I'll let you lead the way. Just this once.

[Because he what? But he's at least a little distracted by Katsuki's offer. Maye Katsuki hasn't done it in a while and he's worried about being rusty. He does get weird when he's not perfect at a thing...but it's fine. Shouto's just gonna squeeze his hand and lead the way to the rink entrance.]

Guess you're feeling pretty generous. Is it because this is a date?

[Maybe he just...wants to say the word again okay.]

[It's fine. Shouto isn't going to laugh at him and he's still better at him in so many other things. But he should have practiced more before planning this. He just didn't think to; he was too busy researching ice skating rinks and the other details to think about it.

It's a bit easier on the floor versus the ice. At least he has a few more dignified seconds before they hit the rink. He squeezes Shouto's hand, already sweating a bit.]

Yeah...that's why. I ain't going to half-ass anything.

['Date'. It leaves a fluttery feeling in his chest, and the skating rink doesn't seem as big of a deal.]
