And when he opens it, there she stands, holding a little birdcage with a mechanical bird sitting inside, playing the song the entire time.
With her big, ol' tail swinging behind her, of course. She looks pretty pleased.]
Hey, Todoroki. Ready for your first music lesson?
[Ignore the scales and fins and her blackened mouth and all that stuff. It's fine.
Music is more important.]
You do!!
Ah--Jiro-san...?
Sure--I didn't have any plans for today.
[He does not say 'why do you look like that.' He does step aside to let her in, sneaking another look as she passes at the fins and the very impressive tail. Hella cool, Jiro.]

backdated to like...the 14th...his birthday eve!!!
It seems to be made up for, however, with the rest of the traits hitting hard. The emotional stuff, the weird moods and he other physical things that have less to do with animals and more to do with how he feels.
A lot of the time, it's kind of awkward and painful as it goes on, because he just doesn't give his moonblessing what it wants. But near the end of the Iris cycle (which bleeds straight through to the tri-moon cycle, so it's not like the end is in sight yet) Izuku admits he needs a burst of chroma and maybe more than that some blatant affection. Ochako's out and he doesn't want to bother her to come home just for him, so...
Well. Shoto moved in next door, didn't he? So Izuku's knocking on the door, a blanket drawn around his shoulders over (terribly unfashionable) pajamas as he shuffles there in his slippers, the dark circles under his eyes perhaps a little too pronounced. ]
no subject
But still, it feels a little unfair, in some ways. Which is why he's making a point of studying the moonblessed as much as he can, watching and learning how the different moons affect different people, and keeping a careful eye on the people he knows. If he isn't going to be hit as hard, he should be able to help them, and if it's just delayed for some reason, at least he'll know what to expect. And in the meantime...he just wants to be able to help.
Which is why there's no hesitation at all when that knock comes at his door one night, Shoto answering in his own pajamas, a plain t-shirt and a pair of loose pants. His hair is rumpled from sleep, but as soon as he sees Izuku standing there he seems to come a little more alive, eyes widening as he catches those dark circles in the light of Izuku's...glowing freckles?
There's no question about whether or not Shoto's letting him in. He's already stepping to the side and tilting his head, motioning to Izuku to come in.]
Is everything okay?
[Well, maybe that question's got an obvious answer, but he still leads with it anyway.]

accidental dates
Izuku settles on just trying to dress "nice". Which means wearing things Jirou had bought him instead of things he'd bought for himself, so he looks like less of a fashion disaster. That's the only way to be sure. Once he's ready, he meets Shoto at the appointed beach, and settles in to do warm ups as he waits... ]
:D :D
...and maybe it is a date. Maybe? Maybe he wants it to be. Maybe he wouldn't mind??? This is complicated, and confusing.
But...ultimately, Izuku is his friend. Izuku is the person he feels the most comfortable around. And, well, Izuku also has no idea what he's doing, so at least they're in this together. And whatever it might be, he's actually really looking forward to it.
Shoto hasn't put any special effort into his clothing this morning, but Izuku's not going to mind that too much, is he? He looks about the same as ever as he calls out, lifting a hand in greeting as he approaches Izuku, a bright look on his face that's pretty close to a smile.]

probable cws: child abuse, burns, please give shouto a hug
He does not enter them without reason. It is an invasion of privacy to see what fears wake them in the dead of night. But Shouto has given him permission to accompany him. To at least reassure him that he isn't alone.
He does not need to physically be next to Shouto. When Shouto next has a nightmare, Grimm is simply there within it.
Now then. What's going on here?]
all of the above yes
That is--he knows he's done this before. He knows this isn't real. It's like he's watching a rerun on TV, something old and so familiar that he knows all the words, even the ones that aren't his. But he's also six years old, and all of this is happening to him for the first time. It's a strange sort of dissonance.
He watches, disembodied, as his six-year-old self creeps to the door of the kitchen, looking for his mother. He sees how haggard she looks, how strained. He hears the trembling in her voice as she tells whoever is on the other end--her sister?? Maybe?? They never got to see her family, not really--about what's happening. To her. To Shouto. All the things his father has done.
His mother had looked so big, then. He was only six, and so small, and the look on her face as she turned to see him, as she looked only at his left side, shock and revulsion and fear and hatred--that left side looks so much like his father's--he could never forget that. It was burned into him, seared in along with the boiling water from the kettle. She flings it, and he screams in pain, and she's apologizing, and he's screaming, his tears burning hot on his face, and there's his father's voice, the sound of a blow, his father's voice roaring, and Shouto is begging his mother not to go, sobbing that it doesn't hurt, really, it doesn't, he's fine--
--but they're gone. They're all gone, and there's nothing but silence, and the throbbing agony on the left side of his face, and the sound of his sobs lingering in the air.]

feels train
After they're done with the lesson - Shouto's come so far when it comes to control, Grimm's proud of his progress - Grimm clears his throat.]
I have something for you, if you will accept it. A gift, as is customary in this time of year.
[He retrieves a small box, which he offers to Shouto. Inside is a charm - a red circle, on which is set a white mask with scars over the eyes. The eye markings should be familiar: they're the same as the ones Grimm and his child have.
Grimm waits for Shouto's reaction.]
toot toot full speed ahead
Shouto isn't expecting Grimm to leave immediately after; they often spend a little time together post training, getting something to eat or playing with Grimmchild, or just talking. But he's also not expecting this.]
Something for me...?
[A gift. What is it? Shouto takes the box with a questioning look, opening it and seeing...a charm? It looks like a mask, like Grimm's face, and Grimmchild's. Shouto takes it between his fingers almost reverently, turning it over and admiring it.]
Thank you. It's...pretty. What does it mean?
[There's always some sort of symbolism with Grimm, after all, and he's sure this is the same.]

Action @ Shouto's place
Shouto had his hot side, if he was willing to use it, but even if he wasn't somehow he had ended up being someone Katsuki could reluctantly tolerate being close to. Maybe it was all the shared experiences. Maybe because he didn't feel like he was miles behind him. Guy was still a pain to deal with though.
Lifting up his knuckles, Katsuki inhales a deep breath. And then punches the door, screaming.]
HEY!!! ICY HOT!!! HURRY UP, IT'S FUCKING FREEZING OUT HERE!!!
no subject
What he's not used to is the sudden assault on his door pulling him out of his doze on the couch. Startling awake, that too-familiar voice barely finishes its yelling before Shouto's opening the door, barefoot and wearing a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt, hair rumpled and a pair of cat ears laying almost flat on his head, that and the twitching tail displaying his irritation at being woken up.]

March Triple Moon
Yet here they are, the first morning of the triple moon, on Shouto's couch under a fortress of blankets and covers. Shouto probably did that because he knows Katsuki gets cold. Bastard. He's still not quite awake, content to stay asleep curled up next to Shouto for as long as possible, nuzzling his neck with his face, an oversized, floppy ear crooked and lodged between Shouto's shoulder and cheek.
His small, round nose lightly puffs air against Shouto's skin, and he presses a soft paw against his shoulder. Shouto smells good. He can practically feel his heartbeat. Let him sleep.]
no subject
And yet here they are. Asleep in a nest of blankets on Shouto's couch, an unspoken agreement between the two of them to be as close as possible and not to talk about what that means or just how safe it feels. Because it does feel safe, at least to Shouto. He knows Katsuki isn't gonna hurt him, at least not while he's asleep, and he knows that if anything happens they both can handle it. It makes it easy to sleep.
Except...now there's something slightly cold and a little damp pressed against his skin, and it's disturbing Shouto's sleep. Brow creasing slightly, he rolls over onto his side, arm curling around the tiny fluffy body next to him.
Something seems strange about that, but his sleepy brain is far stronger than that tiny voice.]

action
He'd be forgiven for thinking that Grimmchild cloned themself. But closer inspection reveals that the other small bug is bigger than Grimmchild, and his mask is a little more angular, closer to Grimm's mask.
Grimm - now tiny - perches himself on Shouto's shoulder and meows.]
no subject
Grimmchild does a loop, diving into Shouto's chest for their usual hug, which means that Shouto's arms are full when the other perches on his shoulder, making a happy sound. He's almost cross-eyed as he looks at this second, larger bug, but...]

3/19 ~the morning after~
Katsuki doesn't think Shouto even realizes how fucking extraordinary he is. Not only was he patient, he let Katsuki ruin his shirts for crying out loud. Katsuki had been greedy, taking every opportunity to snuggle with Shouto, and sure maybe he put up with it because he was small and cute and loud rather than the same size, explosive and loud, but Shouto didn't have to indulge him. Especially after everything.
He even growled at Shouto's cat. He doesn't understand why Shouto would put up with him after all of that, but he doesn't want to screw it up. He wants it to last for as long as it can.
Which is why he's a lot calmer this time when he opens his eyes, vision still blurred from sleep, stretching out his front paws as usual- wait. Those weren't paws. Suddenly, Katsuki is a lot more awake as he stares up at his hands, even gasping. Had three days really passed? It didn't feel like they had. Shit, he's just glad he didn't stretch them in Shouto's face and accidentally punch him awake. Speaking of Shouto...
After staring at his hands and flexing his fingers to make sure they work, Katsuki turns his gaze to the sleeping boy, selfish to take in every detail. He hadn't forgotten how vibrant his hair was, or the way his skin was illuminated softly by the morning light, but he sure as hell missed it. He missed being able to see the splash of pink of Shouto's scar against the rest of his skin. He missed a lot of things. He doesn't want to wake him up yet. Shouto looks so relaxed and peaceful and he doesn't want to end this moment just yet.]
rip
He knows it can't last. The triple moon is short, and there's no reason this comfortable rhythm can continue. Katsuki is gonna be himself again, and he's not going to let Shouto protect him, and who knows if he'll even come by, after being so vulnerable? It's something he's already missing.
But he's got one more night, at least, and just like they've done the last two Shouto and Katsuki had gone to sleep in Shouto's bed, curled up together on the futon. It's so nice, having someone warm and snuggly in bed with him. Elizabeth likes to be nearby, but she's not really a sleep-cuddle cat. And she's no Katsuki.
It's also somehow easier to sleep and stay asleep, with the company. He's always had a terrible time staying asleep, but these last few nights have been sound and dreamless. This morning is no exception, and as Katsuki watches him, Shouto is sleeping peacefully, hair tousled and long lashes stark against his cheeks as he lays on his back, head tilted towards Katsuki and a hand palm up on the pillow by his cheek.]

Dante, May Cordis
Which means when he hears Dante's voice, he yawns and stretches and finally rolls over, padding to the door to open it. His hair is disheveled, and there are two large cat ears atop his head, matching the color of his hair--one red and one white. Slit-pupiled eyes, weirdly luminous, blink at Dante, and a red tail with a white tip twitches sleepily behind him.
Sorry, you're stuck with Actual Cat Todoroki, dude. Never mind the oversized pink hoodie he's wearing that reads 'not a cat.']
Dante...hey. What's up? You...need something?
[The words are interrupted by a yawn which reveals small white fangs in place of his canines. Looks like someone got the full package.]

Hey. Just wanted to see if you were down for grabbing something to eat. It doesn't look like you're up for much, though.

Sword Training (Backdated to May's Iris Cycle)
To Hijikata's surprise Shouto moved much faster than him and already passed his entrance exams in the meantime (which, yeah, made him feel a little slow). On the upside this meant that Shouto would now have access to the Moon Knights' training facilities (not that they wouldn't have allowed Hijikata to use them too, seeing how he's been a regular at the HQ for a while now, eager to help despite not yet being part of the force).
This made it easy for them to meet for a "Swordfighting 101" session (outside of either of their moon cycles) in which Hijikata showed Shouto the basic grips, moves and steps and practiced with him using the wooden practice swords. At the end of it he's pretty satisfied.]
You're doing well. Honestly, the most important thing is the right grip and stance, all the rest comes with practice. If you want you can take a photo to help you remember.
[He demonstrates the two-handed grip once again, standing right next to Shouto so he can get a close-up snapshot.]
no subject
He'd been glad to hear back from Hijikata, though, and the man's offer of lessons is still gratefully accepted. His quirk is strong, and with a Moonblessed partner chroma is less of an issue than it once was, but he's still been here long enough to appreciate the value of a fighting skill that can't be taken away from him. And it's nice, having something that he needs to put his entire body into learning. It's been a while since he's done this kind of thing.
The session is a good one, and Hijikata is a good teacher, and Shouto nods as he pulls out his phone to take pictures from several angles of both grip and foot placement.]
Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to teach me. I've got my quirk, but this place is unpredictable. It'll be nice to have a way to fight that can't be taken away with...magic, or whatever abilities this place has.

A DATE!!! Sometime in early June
Which is okay, he guesses, because neither does Shouto.
After much deliberation and research, he settles on something, he has the whole afternoon and night planned. Which is why he leans over the couch to get in Shouto's face, dressed in something nice yet casual.]
Hey, asshole. Hurry up, I'm taking you out.
[What a strange thing to hear said aloud.]
<3
Mm, why are you murdering me this time?
[In his defense, how often does Katsuki threaten people? The words are new, sure, but hey. He can expand his vocabulary. It isn't that he's forgotten about the promised date, just he's half asleep and it's not the first thing he thinks of!]
